Russian Defence Minister Andrei Belousov inspected the new Rubikon Centre of Advanced Unmanned Technologies of the Russian Defence Ministry and held a meeting on comprehensive development of unmanned technologies of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. The Rubikon Centre was established by the decree of the Russian Defence Ministry in August 2024 on the basis of one of the unmanned aviation combat units.

Andrei Belousov was briefed on the work of the Centre's detachments in the special military operation zone, including in Donetsk, Belgorod, and Kursk directions. The Centre's crews destroyed more than 400 units of AFU weaponry and hardware as well as engaged up to 800 area targets. UAV teams equipped by control means with artificial intelligence components daily perform combat tasks. The intelligence data about the located targets is promptly transferred to command posts for further deployment of attack UAVs.

To complete combat tasks, the personnel of the Centre's combat detachments is manned by engineers, technicians, communication and logistics specialists, military medics, reconnaissance and analytics groups allowing to perform combat tasks with high efficiency.

One of the key directions of the Centre's work is the training of highly skilled instructors selected from UAV specialists of formations and military units, as well as preparing UAV operators to perform tasks as a part of teams and groups of teams.

The Centre also develops, validates, and researches advanced robotic systems and introduces them into the troops, and provides training for robotic system operators. The Centre's staff study the effects of operating conditions for UAV pilots, including FPV drone pilots, and help to develop acceptable equipment specifications to minimise the impact on personnel's health.

The Centre's specialists interact with representatives of the People's Defence Industry, test and apply its developments, and conduct research into artificial intelligence and its applications in robotic systems.

At the command post, the Minister of Defence had a look at the work of the Centre's operators. He also saw the work of the analytics group that synthesises information on the use of systems and tools, analyses data on the report footage, and develops proposals to improve the systems' application. The combat experience gained is used in training the operators of unmanned aerial vehicles and other robotic systems.

At the end of the visit, Andrei Belousov held a meeting to discuss the systematic development of Russian unmanned technologies and the further development of the Rubikon Centre itself. Orders have been issued to form and equip five additional units to perform tasks within each of the groups of forces operating in the special military operation, as well as to ensure that specialists of combat teams and support units are trained as quickly as possible.
