- Col Towner arrived in Rome on August 2 1990. Same day Iraq invaded Kuwait. There was also a huge exposure in Italy of Operation Gladio with the Vatican money laudering and the membership list of P2.
- Even with all the exposure going on in Italy, in Oct 1990 the NATO committee running Operation Gladio still met, in Nov 1990, after European leaders claimed ignorance, Italian President got on national tv and called out the European heads of countries and exposed that they had a representative in the meeting.
