Bicycles Recycle ― Buster Keaton on a Draisine

Buster Keaton made a semi-comical movie (in 1923) about family feuds, called "Our Hospitality", set in the early 1800's.
In one sequence, the protagonist (Keaton) mounts his trusty draisine to go from hither to yon. This is that segment of the movie.
The draisine was the earliest bicycle. Foot-powered.

Some time back, this Project, Bicycles Recycle, was trying to figure out what to do with some of the bicycles we had. When a new 18-speed bicycle could be purchased for around $80, it seemed foolhardy to spend $100 worth of parts and effort to bring a messed-up one (same bike type) back to functionality.

However, it would be a shame to scrap the poor things. It was decided to take the pedals and cranks off and make them "Gallop" bikes.

We didn't know about "balance" bikes for kids. We didn't know about the draisine, either. It was more a way to make a machine older folks could use to regain balance and prepare for riding a regular bicycle after years of going without riding.

It seems the human mind can travel similar paths, beyond the strictures of time and place - or age.
