Genesis Chapter Thirty Two begins with Jacob preparing for a meeting with his brother, Esau, who he has not seen in twenty years. Jacob begins by sending word to Esau through messengers to let him know he is back in the land and that he desires to see him. At this point, Jacob is wealthy and while he desires a brotherly relationship, he understand that Esau may still want to kill him so Jacob plays on Esau’s emotions to win favor. Jacob receives word back that Esau has prepared a group of 400 men for the meeting so Jacob is not sure what to make of this.
