For years, people have been debating between the continued celebration of Columbus Day or the more recent notion of mourning indigenous peoples. For some Columbus Day is a celebration of Italian heritage. For others, it is a salute to progress, exploration and an explorer who made our nation possible. And for others still, Columbus Day is a colonial lie that must be revised to reflect a darker reality.
