Plays that explore the complexity, issues and that celebrate the beauty of men
In a time when theatre faces unprecedented challenges and venues are closing their doors, The Wolves TC driven by Creative Director Rohana Hayes, is set to reignite the stage this November with not just one, but two thrilling new plays, along with readings of two others.
The Wolves are taking a daring leap of faith, driven by a passionate belief in the transformative power of art. In these hard times, it is essential that we defend the art that shapes our identities and connects us all.
Before COVID, The Wolves were on fire, captivating audiences with three original contemporary plays: The Magnolia Tree, Marooned, and Adrifting. However, when Rohana and her co-producer refused to segregate audiences, they faced the difficult decision to pause their vibrant journey.
Now, after four long years, they’re back and ready to make waves! Audiences will be treated to the return of their crowd favourite, the extraordinary Marooned, alongside a brand-new play, My Brother, My Brother, My Brother, which left audiences in awe during its four-show premiere season. Additionally, they will present readings of two never-before-seen plays by the talented Michael: The Shadows and The Hues and When Icebergs Burn.
Each of these four powerful works celebrates the beauty, complexity, and struggle of the human experience while delving deep into the almost-forgotten nobility of men.
Marooned has already made its mark, being used as a teaching tool for psychiatrists across the UK and recognized as one of Australia’s most significant plays. It doesn’t shy away from the difficult questions surrounding why so many lives are lost too soon. Instead, through a rich blend of raw drama, mystery, and humour, it reveals the secrets of four ordinary individuals, ultimately lifting spirits and leaving audiences hungry for life and celebrating the resilient beauty of humanity. In essence, the playwright ventured into the darkness of suicide, seeking answers and emerging with hope.
In this poignant narrative, four souls find themselves marooned in a room in the afterlife, bound by their shared experiences of attempting to take their own lives. But despite their failures, they remain trapped—what must they do to return? Aside from two well-worn benches, the only thing in this space is each other.
My Brother, My Brother, My Brother echoes similar themes as Marooned, standing alone as a unique exploration of identity and society. It poses a vital question: If we teach our young men to feel ashamed of their very existence, what will happen to their souls?
Three young men awaken on a disabled fishing boat adrift at sea, seemingly drugged. What begins as a survival story soon unfolds into a powerful reflection on the human condition.
Michael Gray Griffith, who didn’t see a play until he was 30 and faced early expulsion from school for being “too much trouble,” is a remarkable playwright whose works resonate deeply with audiences, bringing raw honesty and insight into the human experience.
And now, The Wolves are back to lead us through these turbulent times.
Art isn’t merely a hobby; it’s a vocation, a calling. In these challenging moments, we need our artists to serve as navigators of our collective souls, bringing forth questions that enrich our lives and inspire change.
That’s the mission of The Wolves, and the pack is back—ready to make an impact. Join us on this journey of exploration, connection, and celebration of the human spirit!
