Just a few apartment complexes...

In a hit piece entitled "Vance stands by Trump's false claims about Venezuelan gangs in Aurora, Colorado", ABC's "This Week" co-anchor Martha Raddatz went on the attack this Sunday. Using strategic quotes from the defiant Republican Mayor of Aurora, Mike Coffman, who said Trump's claims are "grossly exaggerated" and "have unfairly hurt the city's identity and sense of safety", Raddatz asked Vance if he supported Trump making claims that that members of the Venezuelan Tren de Aragua gang have "taken over" apartment complexes and "overrun" the city.

The problem with this tact is that those claims are true so the only tool Raddatz had here was spin which she attempted to employ by pointing to the mayor's quote, but Vance, an attorney, saw straight through her attempt and raised her one - not only did the Mayor not refute Trump's claim, but the real story here was how Raddatz was attempting to minimize the fact that "just a few apartment complexes" had been taken over by Venezuelan gangs. This is outrageous. Even the quote from the Mayor, who claimed Trump's rhetoric was exaggerated, only claimed that police had made attempts to address them. "Martha, do you hear yourself?!" Vance asked, trying to break through the active farce that was taking place in front of him. Vance goes on to systematically address the problem that Trump was being targeted for bringing up the problem when the press should be talking about the 94 executive orders to dismantle the policies that Trump had in place to prevent this wave of unvetted criminals.

Desperate to put the toothpaste back in the tube, Raddatz clumsily attempts to close the discussion and reframe it in the light she had originally envisioned, but Vance gets the last soundbite in, hammering the truth home "only a
