Victor Davis Hanson: "Its Already Started But People Don't See it..."
With all the rapid changes in technology and culture, it's becoming increasingly clear that the people making these big decisions may not fully understand the consequences. What happens when the leaders pushing AI and open borders are disconnected from everyday people? Victor Davis Hanson takes a deep dive into these issues, highlighting the dangers of having elites who are out of touch with the real-world impact of their policies.
Hanson points out that those controlling the development of AI, for example, don't grasp the damage it's causing to sectors like education, where students can easily exploit the technology for plagiarism, leaving teachers with no real tools to combat it. He warns that while technological advances are inevitable, the people steering them lack the well-rounded, grounded decision-making necessary to consider the full scope of their consequences.
On immigration, Hanson draws parallels between the Mexican-American community today and the Italian diaspora of the past. Both groups started with humble beginnings but, over generations, have integrated and become crucial parts of the American middle class. Today, however, many Mexican Americans are pushing back against the left's victimhood narrative and the overreaching power of the state, especially as they experience firsthand the failures of California’s extreme regulations and government control.
Hanson argues that this dissatisfaction with the radical left is growing, especially among people who want to live free of ideological dogma. As society becomes more disconnected from its values and traditions, we are seeing the rise of a nihilistic agenda, one that could destroy the foundations of Western civilization—leading to unaffordable energy, open borders, and social fragmentation. He points out that politicians like Kamala Harris, who constantly shift their views for political gain, are only contributing to this decline. If Harris loses, Hanson predicts she'll revert to her far-left positions, but even if she wins, her true agenda will resurface soon enough.
