Greco-Roman Biography and the Gospels

Are the gospel accounts reliable historical accounts or a mixture of history and myth? There are some who argue that the Bible is accurate in what it teaches but is seems it is not always easy to tell where myth ends, and historical accuracy begins. If this is so, wouldn’t that make it difficult to know which is accurate teaching and which is myth? Was the Apostle John a reliable witness or fudging a bit when he wrote in his gospel, “This is the disciple who is bearing witness about these things, and who has written these things, and we know that his testimony is true.” (John 21:14) Is his testimony true or a mixture of history and myth?
