Fall Reminder Part 2 (2024)

Part 2 of some reminders as fall is taking effect. If you live in a Mediterranean climate like I do, where it only rains around winter, then now is the perfect time to get some last minute pruning in before things get cold and soggy. Plant pathogens have an easier time infecting when it is wet out, and if you prune when it's really wet, then the little bit of sap that is flowing will likely get washed off and never form a protective resin layer. I'm currently only pruning branches that are in the way of my tractor, but every wound is a gateway for pathogens no matter when you prune, so do so with infection on top of your mind.
