In February, Megan Garcia's 14-year-old son, Sewell Setzer III, died by suicide after he allegedly developed a very intimate relationship with an artificial intelligence-powered chatbot inspired by a Game of Thrones character.
The site? It’s called Character.ai. According to their website it’s Character.ai’s mission to empower everyone globally with personalized AI.
According to the lawsuit, Garcia accuses Character.ai of encouraging her son to take his life. But the company denies any wrong doing.
In a tweet, Character.ai responded: “We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of one of our users and want to express our deepest condolences to the family. As a company, we take the safety of our users very seriously.”
