"It Matters" is a wake-up call to those who either aren't paying attention, don't believe we are living in perilous times, or are apathetic and not engaged.

The song's non-partisan message is that the political class is out of touch and taking care of themselves, and that this won't stop until the people stop it through electoral and other means.

That will only happen if Americans, over 70% of whom (majorities in both major parties and independents) believe the country is headed in the wrong direction, get informed, get involved and vote their preferences. Otherwise, the status quo will continue until it can no longer be sustained.

Contrary to the assurances of the political class, that day is not all that far away.

You may be thinking our world’s just fine,
Or at least it’s not getting worse.
The truth is that we are short on time,
So recognize this first.
