Lot had become so enmeshed in the life of the city that he had become a ruling elder. bowed himself: A term commonly used for the worship of God (Gen_22:5; Gen_24:26); here it describes Lot’s act of reverence to special guests (compare Gen_18:2). The angels appeared as men (Gen_18:2), and Lot greeted them as such.

9 So you see, the Lord knows how to rescue godly people from their trials, even while keeping the wicked under punishment until the day of final judgment.
