Dinosaurs once roamed the Earth millions of years ago, dominating the planet for over 160 million years. They first appeared during the Triassic period, around 230 million years ago, evolving from earlier reptilian ancestors. Dinosaurs came in various shapes and sizes, from tiny, bird-like species to enormous, towering giants. They inhabited all continents, adapting to different environments, including forests, deserts, and plains.

Dinosaurs existed in three main periods: the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous. During these times, they evolved into many different species, including the fearsome carnivores like Tyrannosaurus rex and the massive herbivores like Brachiosaurus. The rise of dinosaurs was a result of environmental and evolutionary factors that favored their dominance over other species.

However, their reign ended around 66 million years ago, during the Cretaceous-Paleogene extinction event. Scientists believe that a massive asteroid impact, combined with volcanic activity and climate changes, led to the extinction of dinosaurs. This catastrophic event caused massive environmental disruptions, wiping out about 75% of life on Earth, including the non-avian dinosaurs.

Interestingly, some of the dinosaurs' descendants survived and evolved into birds, meaning that in a way, dinosaurs still exist today in the form of modern birds.
