Idolaters, Shady Characters, and Kings – Deut. Chpt. 17

In today's text, we are going to see three kinds of people: idolaters, shady characters, and kings. All three have the capability of causing problems for Israel. Knowing what we know about human nature, we understand that such people will be found in Israel AND that they will be problematic. God foresees the trouble and provides clear instructions about how to deal with these folks.

One of the more troubling aspects of humanity is that we are our own worst enemies. We bring trouble on ourselves and then blame everyone and everything else. We could save ourselves a whole lot of trouble if we just did things God's way. Likewise for Israel. If they had just behaved themselves, they would have avoided the sorrow and trouble.
