What Does God REALLY Think About Our Election?
In the Bible, God expresses clear principles regarding leadership, authority, and His care for His people, regardless of who holds political office. Here are some scriptures on these themes:
God Appoints Leaders: “Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God.” (Romans 13:1) God’s sovereignty means He allows leaders to come into power according to His purposes, even when they may not appear to be righteous by human standards.
Righteous Leaders Bring Blessing: “When the righteous increase, the people rejoice, but when the wicked rule, the people groan.” (Proverbs 29:2) Scripture shows that the people thrive under righteous leaders, as they bring justice, peace, and prosperity. This verse emphasizes that good leadership benefits the nation.
God's Justice Will Prevail: “The king’s heart is a stream of water in the hand of the Lord; He turns it wherever He will.” (Proverbs 21:1) God is capable of influencing leaders’ decisions according to His will. Even if they seem unjust or unrighteous, His plans will ultimately unfold.
Protection for His People: “The Lord will keep you from all evil; He will keep your life.” (Psalm 121:7). No matter who is in office, God promises to protect and care for His people. Trusting in God’s provision is a recurring theme, even when leadership appears uncertain or troubling.
Wisdom in Leadership: “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously.” (James 1:5). Seeking wise and godly leadership is essential, and God encourages His followers to pray for wisdom, both for themselves and their leaders.
Our Response to Leaders: “I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.” (1 Timothy 2:1-2). Scripture calls us to pray for our leaders, regardless of their stance, trusting that God can work through them.
God’s Ultimate Plan: “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11). God’s plan for His people will stand, and His purposes for a future of hope are ultimately what we trust in, despite earthly circumstances.
In summary, the Bible teaches that God ordains authority, calls for righteous leadership, and will guide and protect His people no matter the political landscape. Through prayer, seeking wisdom, and trusting in His sovereignty, believers are called to lean on God’s promises, knowing He has a good plan for those who seek Him.
