Operations staff for Chernarus 4th Separate Light Mountain Rifle Brigade issued a warning order to 1st Battalion, that a separatist force had taken over the village of Shakhovka in Chernarus.

Intelligence for the composition of enemy forces which had entered town included Spanish regulars and some local levies. The intelligence report could not make out the type of vehicles the separatists were using for the defense of Shakhovka.

On the march to Shakhovka, our forces were struck with artillery fire. All four rifle squads were ordered to pull back 200 m. 4th Squad was hit hard by enemy artillery, leaving only two remaining. Commander ordered the task force to split into two with 2nd Squad and 3rd Squad maneuvering to the northeast and then to the West, while Command Squad maneuvered to the northwest and then to the east.

The two Scout cars were ordered forward just enough to begin fighting off local enemy patrols as the three remaining rifle squads closed in. Command Squad in its approach to Shakhovka, encountered local levees and Spanish militia as they pressed in to Shakhovka from the West. 2nd Squad and 3rd Squad were both ordered to push to the southeastern edge of the village and begin clearing out enemy there.

Command Squad, in its capacity as the task force assault element, located the two civilian criminal command operatives who were commanding separatist forces in the village, and eliminated them. Commander took possession of several lists of enemy operatives, their cell telephone numbers, and their bank routing and account numbers. Commander took a cell telephone off the person of the female minder of the civilian criminal command group.

Commander also had been assigned the task of locating a set of documents stolen from the separatists by local agents. Those documents will be analyzed by battalion and brigade intelligence staffs as they become available

Enemy counterattacks developed from the north, and included Russian naval infantry special Forces, and Wagner Group operators. Some other enemy forces maneuvered from the north to the northwest and attempted to turn a flank towards the southeast. Also, the enemy special forces infiltrated deep to the south of Shakhovka, complicating our defensive cordon.

Even more enemy counterattacks came from the northeast, prompting commander to order a general retreat south out of the village. By that time however, enemy forces had done tremendous damage to the task force. Despite that, the task force remnants retreated in good order.

Losses were very heavy. 4th Squad was wiped out by enemy artillery, 2nd Squad lost eight, 3rd Squad lost five, and Command Squad lost two. Both BRDM scout cars were abandoned owing to crew hits.

Field counts of enemy losses included two technicals.

Battalion operations staff concluded that, despite the heavy damage done, the task force had done sufficient damage to separatist forces that it prevented them from further exploiting their gains in the village, leaving Shakhovka unoccupied.

It is clear that enemy artillery played a pivotal role in weakening the task force to the point where it was unable to complete its task. Operations staff for the battalion began to implement plans for a small reinforcing element for future attack and clear operations such as what took place in Shakhovka.
