Whales of the Abyss

Some marine mammals that breathe air and nurse their young, like us, spend much of their days in the abyss. Scientists are now discovering that the depths reached by these ocean giants are much greater than they could have imagined. Using tags attached to animals, cameras in deep ocean trenches, and 3D scanned images, this film showcases and illustrates the modern scientific revolution. Built as a dramatic movement to deep sea trenches – from the shallowest to the deepest – live and VFX videos show extremely rare animals and highlight the remarkable physiological adaptations that allow them to dive so deep.
