Do not trust bike shops when selling you a bike because it might not fit. I have had a bike shop try to sell me a bike that does not fit. Bike shops just want to make a sell and/or they do not have experienced sales people. Do your research online or read some books.
Internal geared rear hubs are great for beginner cyclist because they do not have to pedal when shifting. A common mistake with traditional geared bicycles that will cause damage. Another pro or great advantage is that there is less maintenance. Do not have to worry about cleaning Cassett or freewheel. The only con is that it is difficult to remove the rear wheel.
