The Tosochka system, like its predecessors Solntsepyok and Buratino, is designed to support infantry and tank personnel, defeat firing positions, and render light-armoured vehicles and transport of the enemy inoperable.

The achievements of previous systems were saved. The new system has become even more powerful, compact and manoeuvrable. It is mounted on a wheeled chassis of a vehicle with high cross-country capability. The firing range is extended. The system has automated aiming and fire control systems and has increased accuracy.
