Trail plans halted

Plans to extend a popular non-motorized trail at the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is being put on hold. Officials with the National Lakeshore said the decision was made following ongoing consultations with the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians. Tribal Chairwoman Sandra Witherspoon says she has concerns regarding the environmental impact and the proposed extension encroaches upon areas protected under treaty rights.
