Israel strikes Beirut’s southern suburbs

Israeli airstrikes have targeted the southern suburbs of Beirut, sending plumes of smoke into the sky and flattening a building near one of the city’s busiest traffic junctions.

The strikes followed a warning of imminent attacks issued by the Israeli military on social media.

On Thursday, an airstrike on an emergency response centre in the city of Baalbek killed at least 12 rescue workers.
