The Gospel Cannot Be Stopped

I am most amazed by the Old Testament scripture from Isaiah that Jesus read in a synagogue when He was first embarking upon His ministry:
"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He has anointed me to proclaim liberty to the captives..."
The people listening to him marveled at his words, and then questioned him--
challenging him. They then became enraged when he pointed out their sin to them, failing to realize that his word came with consequences.
And so they took him up to a cliff above their town to throw him to his doom.

The gospel cannot be stopped. Sometimes we feel like we too are being led to the edge of the cliff- like the power and torments of this life are just too much. But it is exactly at those times that we trust our great God and Savior Jesus Christ who gave himself for us to redeem us from lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works.
