Dec. 8, 1964 - Dr. Martin Luther King arrived in Oslo today to receive the $55,600 Nobel Peace Prize Thursday. A crowd of several hundred persons assembled at the airport to cheer Dr. King as the civil rights leader stepped off the plane.
“We feel we have much to learn from Scandinavia’s democratic Socialist traditions and from the ways in which you have managed social and economic problems that still plague far more powerful and affluence nations,” Dr. King said.
