A City I Never Visited Before

This graphite pencil drawing ‘Veere – 26-03-20’ is made after a trip to a city I never visited before. Sometimes I follow one of the Dalai Lama’s advices for a good and forfilling life. That is to regularly visit a place you have never been before. Well, Veere and Zeeland in general are places I rarely visit. The province of Zeeland basically is a big mysterious black spot on my retina. Suddenly I felt it was about time to do something about it. A couple of years back I already visited Zierikzee which was lovely by the way. There I spotted the mysterious silverish light hanging about and in between the islands. Veere is also a town affected by such light, I think.

Mill ‘De Koe’

Once in the city, which is a rather small town really, I took a lot of photos. After my walkabout through Veere I got back to the parking lot. There I saw windmill ‘De Koe’ just outside the historical centre. My mind was not fixed on any particular style. However, Leo Gestel’s depiction of olive groves at Mallorca weakly lingered at the back of my head. So it came to be that the bushes in the front turned roundistically cubistic and the mill rather impressionist.

My Roundism Style

I kept the trees in the back also in my roundism style. Moreover, I tuned down the tonal differences in the back even more. In fact, more than to be seen at the very spot in order to create more depth. Sometimes these faint grasses can appear rather weak and so some artistic beefing up is elementry. They almost look like flames burning down the front but I like them nevertheless.
