Talmud Has Two Other Names: Gemara and Shas The word talmud means learning, closely related to the word talmid, Hebrew for "student."The Talmudic commentaries on the Mishnah have another name as well, gemara, Aramaic for "completion," thus named because they provide the full context and interpretation for the Mishnah. the first written collection of the Jewish oral traditions that are known as the Oral Torah.
