“China put 30 warships to sea last year, and it boasts the world’s most merchant vessels. Meanwhile, the U.S. naval fleet shrank, and we now rank 70th in commercial shipping inventory.” Senator Roger Wicker. President-elect Trump has picked Mike Waltz as his National Security Advisor, and he endorsed Senator Roger Wicker in the Mississippi Republican primary even though he had two opponents. I believe Mr. Trump knew he needed a strong Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee and Mr. Wicker is that man because he demonstrates the knowledge and leadership America needs to re-establish peace through strength quickly. Senator Wicker and Congressman Waltz fully get it that our Naval capabilities must be re-shaped rapidly if we are to successfully deter China in the vast maritime and aerospace domains of the Indo-Pacific region, and globally if necessary. I agree with former President Trump and although I don’t agree with Senator Wicker, or any elected official on many issues, on this one I not only agree, but will work with Senator Wicker, National Security Advisor Waltz, and anyone else I can to accomplish the most immediate objective of re-establishing ship manufacturing yards, a workforce for them, and maritime crew force development. Regaining maritime superiority must be our number one national security (and maybe even economic) priority if we are to re-establish peace through strength and deter China.
