433 Eros
If asteroid 433 Eros, a near-Earth object approximately 16.8 kilometers (10.4 miles) in length, were to collide with Earth, the impact would be catastrophic on a global scale. With an estimated mass of about 6.69 × 10¹⁵ kilograms, the energy released upon impact would be equivalent to several million megatons of TNT—far exceeding the power of any nuclear weapon.
Such an event could cause widespread destruction, including massive earthquakes, tsunamis, and a global firestorm from the intense heat of the impact. Additionally, the collision would eject enormous amounts of debris into the atmosphere, likely leading to a "nuclear winter" effect, where sunlight is blocked, disrupting ecosystems and agriculture for years.
The result would be devastating for life on Earth, potentially comparable to the asteroid impact that contributed to the extinction of the dinosaurs 66 million years ago.
