Cub Cadet Ultima Zero Turn Mower, Spark Plug Change

Watch over my shoulder as I replace the spark plugs on my Cub Cadet Ultima ZT1 with the Kawasaki FR691V engine. I’ll show you the tools I use, the correct torque setting of 15 ft-lbs, and some tips to make sure your mower runs like a champ.

Regular maintenance of your Cub Cadet Ultima ZT zero-turn mower's spark plugs is essential for optimal performance and longevity. According to the maintenance schedule, it's recommended to check and clean the spark plug condition and gap every 50 hours of operation and replace the spark plugs every 100 hours.

Steps for Spark Plug Maintenance:

Safety First: Ensure the mower is on a flat surface, the engine is cool, and the ignition key is removed.

Access the Spark Plugs: Locate the spark plugs on the engine. Refer to your owner's manual for specific locations. This mower has two, back of engine on left and right side.

Remove Spark Plug Wires: Gently disconnect the spark plug wires by pulling on the boot, not the wire, to avoid damage.

Inspect and Clean: Remove the spark plugs, usually, a 5/8-inch spark plug socket. Inspect for wear or deposits. Clean if necessary.

Check and Adjust Gap: Use a gap tool to measure the gap. The correct gap is typically 0.030 inches, but verify with your owner's manual.

Reinstall or Replace: If the spark plugs are in good condition, reinstall them. If after 100 hours, replace with new ones.

Reconnect Wires: Attach the spark plug wires securely.

A maintenance routine will help ensure your mower operates efficiently and may extend its service life.
