WATCH Lantsman compares US prosperity to Canada's austerity

Conservative deputy leader Melissa Lantsman during Question Period Tuesday compared Canada's economy to Alabama, America's least prosperous state.

MPs during Question Period debated President-elect Donald Trump's threat to impose 25% tariffs on all Canadian goods coming into the US.

"Our productivity gap with the US costs every Canadian $3,200 a year," she said.

"With the threat of crippling tariffs, will the prime minister end all of the tax increases so Canadians stand a chance?"
