How Can God Die?

The Quran's insistence that God cannot take on human form or die directly contradicts the profound Christian doctrine of the incarnation and sacrifice of Jesus Christ for the salvation of humanity. This limitation in Islamic theology not only confines the concept of God but also denies the ultimate act of love and redemption through Christ's crucifixion.

Quranic verses:

Quran 4:171: "Christ Jesus the son of Mary was (no more than) a messenger of Allah, and His Word, which He bestowed on Mary, and a spirit proceeding from Him: so believe in Allah and His messengers." Here, Jesus is reduced merely to a messenger, not divine in nature.

Quran 5:116-117: Allah asks if Jesus told his followers to take him and his mother as deities beside Allah, to which Jesus replies in the negative, emphasizing his role as a servant of Allah.

Bible verses:

John 1:14: "And the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us, and we saw his glory, the glory as of the Father’s only Son, full of grace and truth." - This speaks to the incarnation, a central Christian teaching.

Philippians 2:6-8: "Who, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God something to be grasped. Rather, he emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, coming in human likeness; and found human in appearance, he humbled himself, becoming obedient to death, even death on a cross." - This illustrates Christ's humility and sacrificial love.

Hebrews 2:14: "Now since the children share in blood and flesh, he likewise shared in them, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil." - Jesus' human experience and death were necessary for the defeat of death.

The Quran's depiction of God as unable to die or become human strips away the depth of God's love and willingness to share in our human condition to redeem us. This is a petty view of the Divine. Muslims, come to Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace, who became like us to save us, and experience the boundless love of the True Vine.
