Starting with credible sources report Director Harpe is considering removing records officers and replacing them with DOC’s computer program ICON. The Director is taking away CERT phones. CERT members will have to answer on their own personal phones. We are being advised new employees are going to have to buy their own patches for state uniforms. We are also hearing talk that furlough might be coming. It sounds like the department is in a serious financial crisis. One of the biggest discussion that must be address is the Directors false report of lowering violence. A check of deaths in a three day period from 11-18-24 to 11-20-24 revealed approximately8 deaths. These deaths occurred during the same time period DOC was reporting a significant drop in violence. Credible reports are being received the department is requiring serious incidents including assault on officers not be reported or documented. This is how the department claims reduction in violence or claims 80% employees retention. DOC simply stops accepting SIRs, or simply changes how they report. For example escapes are now listed as walk away or they remove 400 employee positions then claim the retain employees. Incredibly while DOC makes these claims we are told the DOC Board received reports of an increase medical cost 2 million in a month or loose 100 employees in a month. Obviously the Director is intentionally misleading and lying to the public.
