Intelligence staff for Chernarus 24th Separate Light Mountain Rifle Brigade, from data indicated by drone overflights, discovered a separatist force had filtered down to the southeast and had taken over the village of Gieraltow in Livonia. In conjunction with that discovery was a notification from local friendly agents that they had stolen some military operational documents from the separatists located in the village and had hidden them in a dead drop.

2nd Battalion was ordered to assemble a task force consisting of four light rifle squads, two T-72 tanks, and a BRDM Scout car. The overland march to the area of operation took about 25 minutes.

The tactical plan on the attack was for all four rifle squads to advance into the village from the southwest in a solid front, as the two tanks penetrated into the enemy's defensive cordon, and eliminated any heavy vehicles.

2nd Squad crossed the highway and moved to the northeast to set up an interception point for likely enemy counterattacks while 3rd Squad and Command Squad advanced along the main road, clearing out all enemy resistance.
