Politics and Religion

Hope you had a wonderful and relaxing holiday season and hope you are feeling rested and refreshed!!

Today’s topic of conversation is a bit of a challenge for some of us. Isn’t it interesting that the best conversations that we can have with others is about the most controversial things?

So I am pushing the envelope above and beyond what the experts say. They say we should not talk about politics and religion. I am boldly encouraging us to do just the opposite.

Here is the caveat, have these conversations with the people that we feel the safest with and are special, perhaps our children in our own homes. I’m not going off the deep end and saying that you should get on the soapbox and talk about it in the middle of a family gathering.

But I am encouraging us to have these conversations and just get curious. Learn to have some self-control and just listen to what other loved ones think about religion and politics.

Ask open ended questions. What a great way to really know how our loved ones are thinking and feeling by talking about these controversial issues. What a great way to stay connected as our children are getting older helping them to know that we have a non-judgmental ear and will share some of our wisdom, but in a calm and loving way,
