Who Wrote The Gospels? Sam Shamoun

Irenaeus provides us with an ironclad, unbroken chain of testimony regarding the authorship of the Gospels. This man, a disciple of Polycarp who himself was a disciple of the Apostle John, stands as a beacon of truth in the historical continuity of Christian doctrine. The fact that both Polycarp and Irenaeus were martyred for their faith only amplifies the credibility of their witness. Martyrdom is not something one would endure for a lie, especially when the truth could set them free.

Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John wrote the Gospels - that's the straightforward, undeniable truth as affirmed by Irenaeus. There's no reason to question this because these testimonies are backed by manuscript evidence. Every ancient manuscript we possess that includes the first pages of the Gospels attributes them explicitly to Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. There are no competing narratives or conflicting names. This consistency across centuries is a testament to the reliability of these attributions.

Moreover, the choice of Luke and Mark as authors, who were not as well-known as other apostles, further validates the authenticity of these attributions. If the early Christians were fabricating authors, why not choose more prominent figures like Peter or Paul? The fact that they didn't suggests these attributions are genuine, not concocted for fame or authority.
