Weekly World Session Dec 10, 2024
Neurotransmitters, the brain's chemical messengers, play a pivotal role in how we experience social media in our modern era compared to life before the 1900s. The constant stimulation from social media can trigger dopamine release, fostering addictive behaviors and altering mood, much unlike the slower, less dopamine-spiking interactions of the 19th century. Pre-1900s, social interactions were primarily in-person, leading to a different pace of life where neurotransmitters responded to direct human contact, not digital engagement. Modernity has introduced instant gratification through likes and shares, potentially skewing our natural neurotransmitter balance, contrasting with the more stable, community-focused life pre-modernity.
Sit back and Enjoy!
