Furious rabies is the most common form of rabies in humans and animals, characterized by hyperactivity, aggression, and extreme agitation.

This form of the disease occurs as the rabies virus infects the central nervous system, particularly the brain, causing symptoms like hydrophobia (fear of water), hypersalivation, hallucinations, and convulsions.

Furious rabies progresses rapidly, with death usually occurring within days due to respiratory failure or cardiac arrest.

Without immediate post-exposure prophylaxis after being bitten or scratched by an infected animal, the disease is almost always fatal once symptoms appear.

This makes rabies vaccination and early medical intervention critical for preventing its progression.
