Used or Abused?

Are we used by Jesus or abused by Jesus? With all of the tragedy that we endure in this world, the age old question asked: "Why would a loving God allow tragedy and hard times in our lives?" And why would God make life so hard for His followers? It doesn't make any sense...or does it? Does He allow trials and tribulation for our benefit?
