The Yakovlev Yak-9 was a Soviet single-engine fighter aircraft introduced in 1942, becoming one of the most produced and versatile fighters of World War II. Built from a lightweight combination of wood and metal, the Yak-9 was highly maneuverable and adaptable, capable of performing in roles ranging from dogfighting to bomber escort. It was armed with a 20mm ShVAK cannon and a 12.7mm machine gun, with some variants equipped for anti-tank or long-range missions.
