MZTV 1629: It's Not Your Fault, It's the Old Humanity

The old humanity was crucified by Christ. Thus, any time it speaks, it is the voice of a ghost. It is the phantom limb pain of an extremity long excised and turned to dust. As such, it is a false voice. Yet so many continue to mind it. It frightens them into blind obedience. Its insistences alarm the soul untutored in God’s Word. Its lies seem reasonable.

We are different. By the spirit of God, we put on the new humanity, that is, we spoil ourselves in warm thoughts of what God declares us to be. This is a true voice and it lightens our moods so that our souls ascend above the clouds where Christ is seated and where God could not possibly be more pleased with us.
