The Naked City: Phelps and Earle investigate the suspicious death of aspiring model and actress Julia Randall, found dead in her apartment from an apparent drug overdose. However, inconsistencies—like bruising and a staged scene—suggest foul play. Their investigation leads to Julia’s connections with Dr. Stoneman, a corrupt physician supplying morphine to the city's elite, and Tiernan, a nervous suspect tied to Julia’s social circle. Further clues reveal Julia’s role in a high-society blackmail ring orchestrated by Garrett Mason, a shady drug dealer using women to exploit wealthy clients. The case culminates in a rooftop chase where Phelps confronts Mason, exposing the dark underbelly of Hollywood’s glitz and glamour.
