UN Official Targets Elon Musk and Social Media for 'Eroding Trust' and Silencing Debate

Head of the UN's Department of Global Communications, Melissa Fleming, takes aim at Elon Musk, X, and social media in general:

"The constant stream of... misinformation, disinformation, and hate... shuts down meaningful debate."

"Vicious trolls silence dissent, attacking and driving out vulnerable or minority voices, whether it's a young person bullied into despair, or a climate activist attacked for speaking out on behalf of our planet."

"And this, as a result, is eroding... trust in institutions, trust in science, trust in the facts themselves."

"And this is seriously impacting our efforts at the UN... to make our world a better place."
