Give Justice to the Poor | Psalm 82 (NLT) | Singing the Psalms with Lyrics #psalms
"Give Justice to the Poor" was created as a heartfelt response to the timeless cry for justice and mercy found in Psalm 82. This powerful psalm calls on God's people to defend the defenseless, care for the marginalized, and uphold righteousness. The artists were deeply moved by its message, particularly in a world still marked by inequality and suffering, and felt an urgency to bring this Scripture to life through song.
The team wanted the song to be both a personal challenge and a communal anthem, inspiring listeners to take action and live out God’s call for compassion. Musically, they chose a generate a blend of solemn, reflective melodies and uplifting crescendos to mirror the psalm’s dual tone of lament and hope.
The team used lyrics to highlight the plight of the vulnerable while affirming God as the ultimate Judge. Instrumentation was kept dynamic, with strings and gentle percussion creating a sense of gravity, while the vocals carried a tone of urgency and sincerity. This song is not just a piece of worship but also a rallying cry for believers to step into their God-given role as advocates for justice.
"Give Justice to the Poor" serves as a reminder that our worship is incomplete if it does not lead us to care for others. It’s an anthem of faith in action, encouraging all who hear it to live out the heart of God’s justice in their daily lives.

Psalm 82
A psalm of Asaph.
1
God presides over heaven’s court;
he pronounces judgment on the heavenly beings:
2
“How long will you hand down unjust decisions
by favoring the wicked? Interlude
3
“Give justice to the poor and the orphan;
uphold the rights of the oppressed and the destitute.
4
Rescue the poor and helpless;
deliver them from the grasp of evil people.
5
But these oppressors know nothing;
they are so ignorant!
They wander about in darkness,
while the whole world is shaken to the core.
6
I say, ‘You are gods;
you are all children of the Most High.
7
But you will die like mere mortals
and fall like every other ruler.’”
8
Rise up, O God, and judge the earth,
for all the nations belong to you.
