LOTR: THE WAR OF THE ROHIRRIM Pushed to Streaming Following Box Office Failure

The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim is going to streaming services about two weeks after it premiered in theaters.

The adaptation to J.R.R. Tolkien’s work has so far only made half of its production budget in theaters and doesn’t look like it’ll get much more given the current competition. New Line Cinema didn’t expect much from this movie given it had a relatively modest production budget of $30 million, and it was only intended to retain the rights to the source material; however, this movie still could have done that if it appealed to the Tolkien fans. Seeing as how War of the Rohirrim deviated from the source material to tell a girl power story this turned away audiences that may have otherwise been pre-disposed to see it.
