Can Devin Haney, Tank Davis & Shakur Stevenson Save American Boxing

In 2024, boxing took a hit in popularity in America. The problem isn't Turki Alalshikh. The problem is that the starfighters find ways not to fight each other.

American promotional companies created this problem with exclusive rights deals with networks. Promo companies were reluctant to make cross-promotional fights.

This problem was escalated when the PBC was formed back in 2015. Al Haymon tried to take over the sport of boxing with 500 million dollars in hedge fund money he received from Waddell & Reed.

Fighters like Errol Spence, Tank Davis, and Adrien Broner practiced the wrong side of the street politics. As time went on, a cold war formed in the American boxing scene.

Top American fighters were avoiding each other. Fans of certain fighters put their fighters in the witness protection program. Top fighters were hiding behind social media accounts, fans, promotional companies, podcasts, and YouTube channels.

When HBO left boxing, it was a sign of what was to come. Showtime folded up like a lawn chair. ESPN will end their contract with Top Rank in July of 2025.

Turki Alalshikh is making the fights boxing fans want to see. But American boxing fans are different. They are not like boxing fans.

American boxing fans have become a culture of tabloids, drama, and gossip. They don't want their fighters fighting tough competition. They will hate on anyone trying to make their favorite fighter step up and fight.

The only way this will change is if the big-name American fighters stop making excuses and fight each other. Tank Davis, Shakur Stevenson, Devin Haney and other big name fighters can change the culture of boxing in America.
