British Rail's Finest Hour - Sectorisation

Greetings! :D

Another example of missed opportunities and wasted potential, the sectorisation of British Rail during the 1980s into InterCity, Network Southeast, Provincial, Railfreight and the Parcels sector, proved to be perhaps the closest the nationalised rail operator came to achieving substantial success in terms of improving passenger numbers, increasing revenue and providing a brand image that was tailored to each individual market segment.

Sadly, sectorisation would never be able to fully prove itself due to the fervent desire of the British government to privatise the company and sell it off at the first opportunity, undoing all the hard work undertaken to mould the five sectors into functional assets that essentially reversed the downward spiral of BR's operations only a decade earlier.
