Introducing Frankfurt Zoo's Gorilla Family

Viatu was born on the 20th of December 1998 at Zoo Basel, Viatu moved to Frankfurt Zoo on the 14th of October 2008. His offspring include Chelewa, Quembo, Sawa, Wela, Xetsa, and Arco, although sadly three other offspring, Tandu and Vutu, passed away.

Rebecca, born on the 1st of September 1982 at Krefeld Zoo, moved to Frankfurt Zoo on the 9th of October 1990. She is the mother of the famous Silverback Richard at Prague Zoo ( https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLXC1aShJSBiWGwcmvBNC9Ak9pVswrJgwk) , as well as Akili, Damisi (who you may have seen in Chessington World of Adventure & Zoo videos https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLXC1aShJSBiWoxuuNvBF9X6-_OfQpczov ), Fossey, Ituri, Kabuli, Nasibu, and Sawa.

N'gambe was born on the 23rd of September 2000 at Köln Zoo, one day before Gorilla Day. She moved to Zoo Heidelberg on the 2nd of March 2010 and then to Frankfurt Zoo on the 12th of December 2023. She is a recent addition to the troop and has a son named Kwame.

Shira was born on the 28th of August 2004 at Zoologisch-Botanischer Garten Wilhelma and moved to Frankfurt Zoo on the 20th of September 2011. Sadly, both her first-borns passed away, but she now cares for Wela and Arco.

Wela was born on the 15th of September 2016 at Frankfurt Zoo and is the daughter of Shira.

Xetsa was born on the 1st of March 2017 at Frankfurt Zoo, and sadly, his mother passed away in 2022 due to severe pain from an eye disease.

Arco was born on the 7th of September 2020 at Frankfurt Zoo. Sadly, he has been neutered. His mother is Shira.
