Burn: New Beginnings (part 11)

*With the Old One, at last, back on the Earth that had banished it into deep space millennia ago, dark creatures from the most foul corners of the globe rush out to pay homage. They are all ready to reclaim the night, to once more roam across a chaotic world of shadows and nightmares to cause all kinds of random carnage, but the Old One gives them one very specific task instead. That beast wants every monster to hunt for Burn and Gabriella. It wants those two to be found yet left unharmed, to be watched yet never touched, and soon Burn and Gabriella realize they are in the midst of a very strange situation. No matter where they go the Devoted, and then vile beings they are just realizing do exist...things like werewolves and vampires...get close but never attack. For a time this situation seems even rather fun, Gabriella and Burn able to travel about as if the world hadn't fallen into madness and death, but when they one day realize that a few High Devoted are stalking Reign everything changes. Burn tries to destroy these High Devoted like he did to Xo, but they all get away. It is then that he and Gabriella decide to leave England altogether. They head for the coast and soon find a cargo ship there ready to sail for America, drawn there in a wild hope that maybe that continent hadn't yet fallen, and though they are allowed on and feel this could be a turn towards good fortune, Burn and Gabriella are tragically mistaken. The Old One wants them on the water, is glad its minions drove them to isolation and confinement, and as soon as their ship is deep within the Atlantic that beast attacks. It is a moment where Burn is sure everyone is dead, that he has only trapped Gabriella and Reign inside a floating casket for nothing they can do will stop the Old One, but then, so miraculous, a bright white light from the heavens above shines down and causes the Old One to flee. It is a light that seems to have touched down in America and though Burn has no clue why it caused the Old One to go he is very glad it did [AI Art]*
