Pwnery's Firearm Reviews - Ruger Police Service Six (with a twist)

Continuing my journey with the wayback machine - I present to you...

Hello and welcome to Pwnery's Firearm reviews. Today's episode is rather special in two ways - one, this particular revolver has a slightly storied past, and is in a rare caliber for it's type, and two - this belonged to my father, but don't worry - he's still with us.

That's right, today's episode covers a time piece in my gun history, a Ruger Police Service Six, but chambered in only .38 special. For those of you in the know, the Speed Six and Service Six were essentially marketing gimmicks similar to how Dodge would make special packages of essentially the same model with subtle changes. This particular model I suspect was geared towards city police department contracts in mind. What makes this one particularly interesting is that only two PD's in the nation as near as I can tell, special-requested their Service Sixes to only be chambered in .38 special rather than the usual .357 Magnum. This particular revolver was originally ordered from the Terrence Police Department out in California.

My father acquired this in the early to middle 1980's, and I've recently been the caretaker of it in the past couple of years. The only "upgrade" I had made to it was the addition of the Hogue Mono grip to allow for a more modern grip that keeps your fingers away from the rear of the trigger guard. Other than that, she's got one of my earlier polishing jobs done to it, and a good once-over to ensure it's still mechanically fine. In any event, sit back and allow me to regale you the tale of this pistol, and what I learned about it along the way.
