Out of the Shadows (Part 2 of 3)

In part 2 of this remarkable silent film (circa 1920's) made by the superintendent of Utica State Hospital in New York, we see Mary's progress through the receiving ward as she undergoes a battery of medical tests. Mary, the farm wife and mother of a newborn whom we met in Part 1, is extremely helpless and compliant as she undergoes ultraviolet light treatment and x-rays. Mary is then presented to the medical superintendent and staff for approval of her treatment plan. Soon after Mary is visited by her husband but remains unresponsive to him. Part 2 concludes with a search for a long-term bed for Mary as she leaves the receiving ward.
